The National Union of Kusasi Students and Associates (NUKSA) has called on the Government to increase the security in the Bawku Municipality and ensure that it is sustained for the entire year, since it is an election year with lots activities in the area.
They suggested that a military barracks be established in the municipality as well as an intensive search and seizure of weapons, since the recent event had shown that many people in the area have in their possession sophisticated weapons.
A press release signed by Mr Awini Dramani, General Secretary of NUKSA and issued in Bolgatanga on Monday, called for a neutral body that would undertake peace talks to resolve all grievances amicably.
It asked all opinion leaders and politicians to contribute positively to building peace in the area saying, "We urge all politicians to demonstrate their commitment to peace in the area and refrain from conducts that suggest that they support certain factions against others".
"We as an association are very much embarrassed at the bad name that Bawku has given herself and would go to all lengths to ensure that nobody does anything to undermine the peaceful co-existence in our municipality".
The Association called for the protection of the Bawku Naba for as long as it was necessary and appealed for relieve items for those who lost their property during the conflict.
The Association condemned the clashes between the Mamprusis and the Kusasis in the Municipality, which started on January 1st and urged the Police to take seriously certain actions that could lead to violence to forestall complications.
In another Statement issued by the Foundation for Grassroots Initiatives in Africa (GrassrootsAfrica), noted that the various associations and groups in the communities should be involved in the peace making process, since the conflict affected them directly and they would be in a good position to contribute meaningfully to solving the problems.
The statement signed by Mr Edwin Batir, Policy Officer, GrassrootsAfrica called on all NGOs in the Upper East Region to get involved and work towards the attainment of lasting peace and harmony in the Bawku the Municipality.
"Peace and harmony is very vital for the development of every community and that there was the need to include all relevant individuals and groups in the bid to arrive at peace.
"There is the need to also to involve people such as farmers, market women, craftsmen and women", it said
