Mr. Hayford Kugblenu, NPP Parliamentary candidate for the Hohoe-South Constituency, on Wednesday urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to extend its verification exercise on the perceived over-bloated voter register beyond the Ashanti Region. He specifically made reference to the Volta Region, where he suggested the EC's research to find out the authenticity or otherwise of the seemingly overfed voter register. Mr Kugblenu, who expressed this sentiments in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Hohoe said the concerns as raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the subject matter was a genuine cause but disagrees when the same party became silent on the conduct of the voter register in their perceived stronghold, the Volta Region. He alleged that records attest that results from some polling stations in previous elections in the region were annulled resulting from ballots being more than registered voters. Mr Kugblenu said the suggestion of Togolese nationals’ names on the voter register could not be ignored and it would have been a high point for the NDC to instruct the EC to extend the verification exercise to their stronghold. He noted that politics was about exploring a disadvantaged situation to advantage, “but beyond this was morality and truth.” He urged the EC to redouble its focus and composure towards organizing another peaceful, free and fair elections in December.
