The Ghana Environmental Awareness Association (GEAA) has called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to demolish dilapidated structures in the city, which pose a danger to life and property. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, on Sunday, the National Organiser of the Association, Mr Theophilus Djanie Magoah, identified one such structure, situated on the Amonakwah Link, behind the Children’s Hospital, at Korle Workon, in Accra. He noted that, the building with serious structural defects and cracks had been abandoned for over 40 years now and was being occupied by squatters and some coconut sellers. Mr Magoah recalled that sometime ago, a cement block fell off from the building, injuring a passer-by, and had to be rushed to the Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment. He appealed to the Assembly to pull down the building to protect the public from any unforeseen danger in the future. The GEAA commended the AMA for acting promptly on such reports and pledged its readiness to collaborate with the Assembly to protect the environment and the well being of the public.
