CPP, PNC Form Alliance Website
Reports say the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) have agreed to go into alliance for the December elections. The reports indicate that at a crunch meeting last night the flag bearer of the PNC, Dr. Edward Mahama accepted to become the running mate to the CPP Presidential candidate, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom. The CPP’s campaign srategist Mr. David Ampofo confirmed the reports to Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah. He said the move had a huge significance and will give Ghanaians an excellent chance to make a better choice. He will not say which of the two biggest parties the coalition will go with in the event of a run-off in the December polls. The parties will run the elections on the CPP’s symbol he noted. Mr Ampofo said the coalition will select common parliamentary candidates for the elections. The two parties have been holding talks for years on coming together to form a third political force in the country. Previous talks between the parties were unsuccessful due to mistrust between their leaders. Their disagreements ranged from how to combine party symbols to how to reconcile their party leaders. The PNC accused the CPP of making insulting proposals. For the past few weeks there had been strong indications that the two parties will eventually unite for this year’s elections. Details of the meeting will be brought to readers. Stay tuned.
