Christians urged to be charitable

03 Jan 2011 277 news, religion

Christians have been urged to be charitable throughout the year and not to wait for particular periods before showing hospitality to the needy. This forms part of the message to delegates at the just-ended three-day 2010 District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses, at the weekend, in Accra. The 6,394 delegates were told to imitate Jesus and his father Jehovah God and show kindness to their fellow man, especially the needy. Various speakers at the convention, espoused qualities that included empathy, impartiality, a forgiving spirit, reasonableness, loyalty, appreciative spirit and being approachable, They stressed that Christians needed to imitate Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ in the way the two display such endearing qualities to mankind. Mr Emmanuel Adjei, an elder from the Legon Congregation underscored the importance of Christians forgiving their fellowman from their heart. He said “it is when people practiced forgiveness that God could forgive their own shortcomings and sins”. Mr Christopher Slay, a member of the Ghana Branch Committee of Jehovah’s Witnesses, gave the assurance that a good relationship with God was “the best thing that could ever happen to a Christian.” Speaking on the topic: “Remain in the Secret Place of the Most High,’” Mr Slay said, a good relationship with God was critical to spiritual, physical, mental and moral security, and that, the relationship was essential for Christians to wage the spiritual warfare with the Devil. A full-costume drama based on the bible record of the destruction of Ancient Jerusalem was enacted, with a call on the Witnesses to be alert and obedient to Jesus’ warning of the end times. About 110 convention delegates were baptized as a symbol of their dedication to worship God. The three-day convention was organized under the theme: “Remain Close to Jehovah.”
