Sixteen newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners today subscibed to the oaths of office and allegiance before the INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Mohammed Jega at the Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Prof. Jega in his address to the new Resident Commissioners, reiterated the Commission's resolve to conduct credible ans acceptable elections come 2011. The INEC boss who described their appointment and subsequent swearing - in as an important milestone in the very serious obligation of repositioning the Commission to deliver free, fair, and credible elections in 2011 and beyond, also emphasized the need for the Commissioners to jealously guard the independence of the Commission especially in thier relations with State governments. Prof. Jega further admonished that the era was gone when Resident Commissioners went cap in hand to solicit for assistance from state governments. The INEC Chairman also used the opportunity to call on the Resident Commissioners to ensure the success of the display of Voters Register Exercise in their respective states
