The creation of 1.6 million jobs by the Mills administration, as explained by Deputy Minister of Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, failed a truth test when Ghanaians interrogated its authenticity.
Much water has passed under the bridge since that claim was made.
It remained one of the many lies of the ruling party since its assumption of power in the past two years. Although it cannot surpass the Mills diplomatic gaffe about Ivory Coast, it created its own negative ripples on the political plane, leaving people bemused as to why a government would resort to spreading lies all over the place.
The job creation mantra, it appears, has refused to go away as the Minister of Information returned to it recently, as if oblivious of the problems it created for a Deputy Minister of Information.
John Akologu Tia, a few weeks ago, turned his attention to the job creation subject once more by stating that their government had created some two million jobs in excess of what his subordinate deputy minister put out earlier.
The propaganda machinery of the government appears to have gone overdrive. It is now trying to propagandize everything that comes their way including matters which have lost all traces of credibility such as the creation of phantom jobs.
It was not surprising therefore that Hon. Tia was unable to provide details to prove his point about the creation of two million jobs.
We would appreciate it if the honourable man would live up to the respect of his honourable position of a Member of Parliament by providing us with the necessary details.
Lies require continuous deceptive inputs to sustain them, otherwise their unworthiness would soon be exposed as it is beginning to be the case with the NDC government’s phantom jobs.
Hon. E.T Mensah did not help his colleagues when he distanced himself from the two million jobs created when he said he was unable to tell where the figures were coming from.
President Mills, when he hosted the media at the Castle, had to contend with the job creation challenge too, albeit in a different fashion.
His response to a query about the rampaging foot-soldiers let the cat out of the bag, and for us, it spoke adequately about the mendacity which has become the hallmark of his administration.
Ascribing the unruliness of the foot-soldiers to unemployment by a President whose men claim two million jobs have been created since he assumed the presidency sounds flawed, logically.
We would renew our call for candour and decorum in governance and entreat those at the helm of affairs of state to understand that economic figures, when they are conjured and put out for propaganda purposes, would yield nothing but disrespect and scorn for those behind the despicable actions.
We have had enough of this crap about phantom employment and conjured figures from persons who continue to believe erroneously that their lies are being believed. God save us!
