The Alliance Francaise in collaboration with the French Embassy in Accra will on Friday October 13 2006 present Hewale Sounds, a neo-traditional group in a magnetic concert at the premises of the Alliance Francaise. Other groups scheduled to perform at the concert, which forms part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of Hewale Sounds, include the sensational Kusum Gboo Dance Ensemble and Local Dimesions, a Palm Wine Highlife group led by Prof. John Collins. Hewale Sounds has over the years thrilled diverse audiences with a fine fusion of traditional music and their contemporary extensions creating in the process a new breed of compositions that stimulate listeners while revealing the power of traditional African instruments. Led by Dela Botri, the group has performed to cheering crowds in Togo, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Norway, Jordan and the United States. They have also organised workshops for music students and teachers from Europe and the United States. Other cultural programmes lined up for October at the Alliance Francaise include the popular Wednesdays at the Pailotte. This month will feature Y2K Band (Highlife, Soka and Salsa), Dza Nyomo Dance Ensemble (Traditional/Contemporary Music and Dance), Gaskia Dance Company (Traditional Music and Dance) and Qu est Que Cest Band (Highlife Music). Films to be screened that form part of the History of Cinema series include M. Le Monet (Fritz Lang), Boudu (Jean Remoir), The 39 Steps (Alfred Hitchcock) and King Kong 1993 (Miriam C. Cooper. A painting competition dubbed "Rapid Painting" would be organised as part of the Spamish Day Celebration while sculptures by Massimo Wanssi will be put on display for art lovers in and around Accra. An exhibition of 15th - 18th Century European engravings organised by "Centro Studi Archeologia" and "Musee di storia Naturale" in Milan (Italy) will also take place during the month of October.
