Diva Doreen Is Stars Of The Future Judge 3
No day spent listening to radio is complete . . . not without her. Her excellent taste when it comes to the selection of songs is unparalleled . . . is it African contemporary music? Is it the blues to spice a hot day in the capital or is it dance hall classics that put the lift in one’s steps? . . . Your girl Doreen has it covered. Doreen Andoh is truly the Queen of Brunch Time Radio. It has been 13 years and still counting of solid presenting and radio listeners in Accra and beyond will attest to her capabilities of keeping listeners entranced for the duration of her brunch time program on Joy Fm. Now with her being on board the Stars of the Future Music Reality TV series as the third Judge, Doreen Andoh is set to captivate TV audiences with her witty and humorous personality. A call from Charterhouse is all it took to change Doreen’s schedule from ace radio presenter to a discerning judge who will, with the assistance of her other able colleagues Bibi Brew and Zapp Mallet, influence the choice of who becomes the next music star of the future. Together they will mould these young music talents into something beautiful that will be the future of Ghanaian music. There is nothing to worry about when it comes to the capabilities of Doreen to judge music stars, she is more than a music connoisseur who knows her music inside out and dishes it out with a flourish on her program. She is the epitome of what a music competition host should be; she knows music inside and out. She has always been a music judge, in a recent interview with this reporter, Doreen stated that “I have always been an Idol freak, the first time I saw American Idols I thought to myself, this can be done in Ghana also. I got the tapes and brought it to Ghana to try and find ways of making it relevant to the Ghanaian story. I was pretty excited when I saw SOF, all those young people being given the chance to explore their dreams is to be commended” The undisputed Queen of radio said she was not too worried about how she was going to cope as third Judge to replace Nana King. “I know my music, I know when someone is in key and when they go off I know. I can spot those contestants who were at the auditions without faith even in their own talents, bathroom singers who are not up to scratch. When I hear a contestant who will not only be a musician but become a selling artiste in future I can tell and I believe that is why I was chosen for the job.” Doreen Andoh is the regular presenter of Joy Fm’s brunch time program Cosmopolitan Mix. How she got into radio presenting is as interesting a story as any, according to Doreen she was waiting to enter the University in 1995 when the University went on strike. This was the same year that Joy Fm, one of the first FM stations had opened in Ghana. “I walked into the office of Joy and told them that I wanted to read the news for them. Then they asked me to bring an audition tape. I did not have one so I said to them, why don’t you audition me? Persistence paid off when she was auditioned and accepted into the newsroom to read the news. The rest as they say is history as her love for music moved her from the newsroom into the studios as a presenter, a job that she has been doing perfectly all these years. Those who have been introduced to her fluid presentation and full voice on radio make it a date to listen to her everyday. It also helps that she appreciates music so much because then she always knows what song will sooth her listeners ears and at what time. Doreen is a graduate of the Columbia School of Broadcasting and the Ghana Institute of Journalism where she read Broadcasting and Public Relations respectfully. When she finally retires from main stream presenting, Doreen hopes to operate an entertainment Management Consortium. Asked what she will be looking out for in the performances of the contestants, Doreen said she will be looking for passion and total conviction in the music they sing. According to her there are many people who believe they can sing but it takes someone with total devotion to the music to give off the right vibes that she is looking out for. The No. 1 music reality TV show, ‘Stars of the Future’ returns for its third season when it premieres in May 2008. The hit series which empowers viewers to choose who becomes the next singing superstar by voting their favorite to win the keenly contested title of Music Star of the Future and an opportunity to record their debut album with the best producer the country has to offer, is fast becoming the must watch music reality show in Ghana.
