Mr Robert Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), has advised residents in the Metropolis, to ensure that programmes aimed at tidying up their environments were sustained. He said, such programmes, if sustained, would help guard against the outbreak of epidemics, thus safeguarding their own health conditions. Mr Ofosuware gave the advice, during a clean-up exercise at the Tema fishing harbour, on Saturday, organised by TGIB Production, a Tema New Town-based Environmental, Sanitation Documentary Production House, in collaboration with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, the Red Cross Society, and Zoomlion. He commended the participants, mostly fishermen and residents of the area, for their communal spirit, and entreated them to organize periodic clean-ups to improve their environment. The MCE assured the fisher folks that the broken down wooden wharf at the harbour would soon be repaired to facilitate the smooth-mending of their nets. Mr Sirth Amago, Facilitator of TGIB, noted that, because whatever happens along the coast, directly affects mankind, the organizers saw it necessary to select the fishing harbour for the exercise. Mr Amago said with a clean environment at the beach, the health of members of the fishing community and fishermen would be safeguarded. Nii Adjierteh Mattor, Chief Fisherman, reminded residents of New Town that, it was their collective responsibility to join in cleaning the beach periodically, in order to ensure clean, safe and healthy environment.
