The Overlord of Gonjaland Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa I, has commended the country’s security agencies for the effective manner in which they helped to maintain peace and security in the country. He also commended the hard working farmers, fishermen and public servants for their service to the nation during 2010 and assured them of his peoples support in the coming year. Yagbonwura Boresa said in a New Year message on Friday that “The New Year opens yet another chapter in our efforts to yet strengthen the spirit of unity and focus in our efforts to ensure the rapid development of the Gonja kingdom and the country at large”. The Yagbonwura unveiled a number of activities to be celebrated in Gonjaland for the coming year among which are the Damba festival in Damongo under the theme: “Consolidating peace and encouraging the youth to invest at home.” He would also be celebrating the one year anniversary of his enthronement as Yagbonwura which would be marked with the launching of a “Yagbon-Foundation” which would serve as the platform for the socio-economic development of Gonjaland. Other activities are re-kindling the spirit of unity to commemorate the treaty of unification of Gonjaland in Yapei and the visit of the Overlord to all Gonja divisional areas to interact with the people.
