Bashiru Moro, a 19-year-old vulcanizer, has been fined GH¢360 by the Juaso Circuit Court for abducting a 16-year-old student for three days without the consent of the victim's parents. Moro who pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea would serve 18 months in imprisonment in default. He was also ordered to sign a bond of GH¢2000 with one surety to stay away from the victim for two years, failure of which would attract a six months prison term. Police Superintendent Francis Agrippa Oppong, presenting the facts of the case told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that the complainant, Martha Agyemang was the victim's mother whereas the accused was a vulganizer, all residents of Obogu near Juaso. He said the accused and the victim had been in an amorous relationship for the past two years despite the persistent protest by the victim's mother for them to end the relationship, which had adversely affected the victim's academic performance. On October 12, the accused lured the victim who was in a boarding school in Kumasi to Obogu and kept her in his room for three days. According to the prosecutor, on October 14, around 1830 hours, the victim's mother had information that, her daughter was in the accused room and sent one, Richard Asante to go and verify. The prosecutor said Asante returned some minutes later to confirm the information to the victim's mother who reported the case to the Obogu police. However, when the police got to the accused house he had already arranged for the victim to return to school, compelling the victim's mother to chase them with a taxi. On reaching the Juaso Junction, the victim's mother spotted the two by the roadside waiting to board a vehicle to Kumasi and rushed back to the Juaso police to make a report. The police got to scene only to discover that the victim had already boarded a vehicle, and arrested the accused.
