Mr Victor Okuley Nortey, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cut a sod for the commencement of a 4.5 million dollars underground drainage system at Abossey Okai in Accra on Saturday. The 2.5 kilometre project, which would curb the perennial flooding in the area is being undertaken by a Chinese company, Top Construction Company Ltd, and funded by the government of Ghana. The project would start from Abroquah Schools near Lamptey Mills institute to Mataheko and its environs and would be completed within 12 months. Addressing the people, the MP expressed delight that the project, which had been on the drawing board for years had finally kicked off. He said, “This project had been long over due but now it is a dream come true to end the perennial flooding of houses near the drains at Abossey Okai, Mateheko and its environs.” Mr Okuley Nortey gave the assurance that the government would give its fullest support to make the project “a living testimony to the memory of those who contributed to its success”. He called on the people to contribute their quota towards the effective execution and implementation of the project in the area. The project manager of Top Construction, Mr Yao Jinting, said the only way the area could move towards achieving its development goals was to forge ahead in unity and with positive thinking, adding that, “it will require the cooperation and support of the people for us to complete the project early.” Mr Emmanuel Tetteh Okine, Assemblyman for Abossey Okai, expressed his gratitude to the government and the Chinese company for the honour done to the community, promising that he would monitor the activities of the people to ensure the early completion of the project. He called on the people to support the project as it would encourage the government to send more development projects to Abossey Okai and Mateheko.
