The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon on Wednesday sent a congratulatory message to President John Agyekum Kufuor on the occasion of Ghana’s 51st Independence celebration which falls on Thursday March 6. A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon wished to extend to President John Agyekum Kufuor, the government and the people of Ghana his warmest congratulations on the historic occasion. Mr. Ban Ki-Moon stated: “In the face of emerging global challenges, the United Nations is in greater demand than ever before in its history, working with member states. I am determined to achieve progress on the pressing issues of our time, step by step, by building results along the way. “Even as we address the complex problems prevailing today, we must never lose sight of the founding principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, which called for the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity in the organization's work. I am committed to fostering a culture of ethics and accountability at the United Nations to show that we are fully answerable to all member states and to the general public. "Aware of the high expectations the world has for the United Nations, I will exert my utmost efforts to realize this vision of effectiveness and efficiency in all of our endeavours, enhancing our ability to deliver on shared priorities. As my colleagues and I pursue this mission, it is heartening to know that the United Nations can count on the guidance, commitment and support of Ghana.
