Hope Christian Academy of Gomoa Fetteh came first with 97 points in a quiz and debate competition between its pupils and Jehovah Shammah International School at Senya Beraku. In the debate, Christian Academy spoke for the motion on whether corporal punishment should be introduced in schools while Jehovah Shammah of Senya Beraku spoke against it. It was organised by the managements of the two schools to strengthen their existing cordial relationship and also share knowledge among the school children. In his closing remarks, Mr Kenneth Koomson, a senior opinion leader at Senya Beraku, who chaired the programme, suggested the re-introduction of the cane in school to help enforce discipline. Mr Koomson, however, cautioned teachers to be careful not to over-punish the children, adding that a situation where teachers in the course of disciplining wayward children caused injuries to them would be unacceptable. “When this happens, it will be a violation of the children’s rights,” he added. Mr Koomson advised the children to always abide by school rules and regulations and also take instruction from authorities to enable them come out with flying colours in their examinations. Pastor Daniel Bekoe, Proprietor of Jehovah Shammah School, warned the children against immoral acts and other negative tendencies that could disrupt their studies. He told the children to learn hard to reciprocate the huge monies being spent by the government and their parents on their education. Pastor Bekoe urged parents to invest more in the education of their children to help develop their talents.
