Mr. Joseph K. Onyinah, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, has advised teachers against extortion of money from parents through their wards. This, he said, put a huge burden on parents who had taken advantage of the free educational system to send their children to school. Mr. Onyinah said this at a Parents/Teachers Association (PTA) meeting of the T.I Ahamaddiya Primary "A" in Kumasi on Wednesday. In a speech read for him, Mr. Onyinah said attitude of some public school teachers was appalling since they were not giving out what was really expected of them as teachers. He said for instance that, instead of them engaging their students in a lot of exercises as well as accessing them, they went to school late and exhibited other negative practices. Mr. Abdul Sam, Regional Manager of the Ahamaddiya Educational Unit, said out of the over 100 schools in the Amankwatia Circuit, the school placed fifth in the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
