Sixty-four teachers in basic and second cycle schools in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District have been honoured for their hard work. The programme was organised by the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service and the District Assembly. The award winners received television sets, table- top refrigerators, orthopedic mattresses and pillows, gas cookers with cylinders and DVD players. The theme for the occasion was: "The Role of the Motivated Teacher in the New Educational Reforms." Presenting the items to the award winners at Winneba, Mr Solomon Abbam Quaye, District Chief Executive, urged award winners to work harder to promote education in the area. Mr Abbam Quaye commended individuals and institutions that donate items towards the event. He called on individuals, organisations and government to motivate teachers to enable them to turn out qualified and good citizens. Mr Daniel Kweku Arhin, District Director of Education, urged parents to appreciate the good work of teachers and cooperate with them so that they could give off their best. He advised teachers to be disciplined to enhance the image of their profession. Mrs Rita Ackon, a retired educationist commended teachers for their contribution towards the development of children in the country
