Service personnel undergo orientation

23 Jan 2011 197 news, social

Alhaji Haruna Abdul-Salam, Nkoranza South District Coordinating Director, has urged heads of departments to open up to their subordinates and acknowledge their talents, skills and knowledge in order to improve work place conditions. Alhaji Abdul-Salam was speaking at an orientation workshop organised for more than 140 National Service Personnel at Nkoranza. He described National Service as a period of inducting the youth into job opportunities so they would prepare themselves well for their chosen careers. He noted that the youth were adventurous in this computer age and had managed to acquire a lot of knowledge useful for national development hence heads of departments should make good use of them and prepare them for national development. The coordinating director stressed the need for the service personnel to respect and obey the rules of organisations they had been posted to and to work hard to earn better testimonies for themselves. Alhaji Abdul-Salam advised them to be wary of peers with questionable characters so they would not be lured to engage in social vices. Mr Stephen S.B. Said, Nkoranza South District Director of the National Service Scheme, announced that a total number of 178 personnel made up of 137 service personnel and 41 volunteers had been posted to serve in the district. He said lack of accommodation was a major challenge facing the personnel and appealed to Assembly members and traditional authorities to arrange for rooms to be made available to service personnel every year so they would accept postings to serve in communities. Mr Ebenezer Amoah, Nkoranza South District Planning Officer, advised personnel to regard themselves as agents of change by leading lives worthy of emulation. He asked them to be disciplined and to have good working relationship with their heads of departments and other staff members so they could be considered for possible employment. The Nkoranza South District Director of Agricultural Services, Mr Mac-Lawrence Ahiadu, who presided, emphasized the need for service personnel to exhibit good morals to win the trust and confidence of the people.
