Acting Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) Anna Bossman has urged Ghanaians who feel badly treated at foreign embassies to petition her outfit for redress. Ms Anna Bossman said every Ghanaian deserves to be treated with respect and dignity and if anyone feels that he/she has been denied such rights, they could report to CHRAJ for further action. Her comments follow public outcry over the treatment that is being meted out to Ghanaians and other nationals who apply for visa to countries like, USA, Spain, France and Denmark. Hundreds of Ghanaians who visit these embassies are made to queue in the sun without seats outside the premises of the embassies until they are attended to by officials. Some have described such treatment as dehumanizing and embarrassing since nationals of these countries are not treated like that when they visit Ghanaian embassies in their countries while seeking for visas to Ghana. Speaking to Citi News, Ms Bossman could however not confirm whether or not a petition has been sent to CHRAJ. According to her, the Foreign Affairs Ministry must look into the matter and help address the situation.“I think that a lot of the issues regarding the foreign missions should rightly be addressed to our Foreign Affairs department. “If a communication is made by a group of persons who feel that the way the Spanish Embassy or other embassies are asking people to stand in the rain (is not right) and this is the way they are treating us then the Foreign Affairs Ministry would have to do something about it”.
