A Professor of Philosophy at the Munster State University in Germany, Professor Klaus Muller, has commended the level of religious tolerance in Ghana. He said it was exhilarating to see such a high level of tolerance existing between the various religious denominations in the country. That, he noted, demonstrated a high sense of maturity on the part of the leadership of the religions groups, which according to him was important for national unity and development. Prof Muller said these when he led a 30-student delegation from the University to pay a courtesy call on Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister in Tamale on Friday, February 7, 2008. The visit of the delegation formed part of an exchange programme between the Saint Victors Seminary in Tamale and the University of Munster. The German students would interact with their Ghanaian counterparts in the areas of philosophy and Theology. Professor Muller said the purpose of their visit was to enable the students have a better understanding and appreciation of the culture and religions practiced in Ghana and Germany. Alhaji Idris educated the delegation on the 2008 General Election and on the development challenges of Ghana and the Northern Region in particular. He gave the assurance that the elections would be conducted freely, fairly, transparently and peacefully, devoid of violence. Alhaji Idris said government would ensure that no group of people disturbed the peace and tranquility of the nation. He said the Regional Security Council had put in place measures to ensure a violent-free election and warned that people behind recent threats to destabilise the region would not be spared if caught.
