Rawlings Accuses Govt Of Introducing Unfriendly Labour Policies Website
Former President Jerry John Rawlings, has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of introducing unfriendly labour policies, which have succeeded in taking away the rights of workers restored by the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and National Democratic Congress Party (NDC) governments. He said “Any government, whether constitutional or otherwise, which continually violates and insults the dignity and intelligence of its people and flaunts its authority and obscene wealth with impunity in the face of suffering as pertains in Ghana today, must take responsibility for the degeneration and decay of society.” These were contained in a statement signed by Mr Kofi Adams of the Office of the former President, and issued to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday in Accra, to commemorate this year’s May Day Celebration. It urged workers to be guided by the truth and their determination to achieve real power for Ghana. The statement said “At a time when the hardships and suffering of the ordinary workers of Ghana are being compounded on daily basis by the inhumane and obnoxious policies and practices of the Danquah-Busia tradition and the moral fibre of our leaders is being corroded by the influence of corrupt practices and flagrant abuse of power, it remains imperative that we do not lose sight of history and from where we came from.”
