Mr Isaac Asirifi-Kudom, Presiding Member of Nkoranza South District Assembly, has urged the electorate to vote for persons who are experienced and competent to serve the people at the District Assembly and Unit Committee levels. He cautioned the citizenry not to mar the forthcoming District Assembly and Unit Committee elections with partisan politics. Mr Asirifi-Kudom who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza observed that some assembly members do not contribute to discussions affecting their communities. "It is the responsibility of assembly members to visit their electoral areas and inform the people of the programmes and activities of the assemblies," he explained. He advised the people to vote for competent people who would be ready to serve but not to be served, adding, that the work of an assembly member or a unit committee member is a selfless work. The Presiding Member expressed the need for assembly members to educate the public to honour their tax obligations so that the assembly could mobilise more funds to support development programmes. He said any assembly that generates more funds internally receives more share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund towards development programmes. Mr Asirifi-Kudom announced the formation of a District Taskforce to collect basic rates, adding that every adult and rateable person living in the district would pay GH¢ 1.00
