Plaintiff Closes Case On Dr Stephen Adei Website
Mr James Agaagar, Counsel for Mr. Egbert Faibille, the Plaintiff in the suit against Dr Stephen Adei, Rector of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) on Monday closed its case. Six witnesses, including Mr. Egbert Faibille, Managing Editor of the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, Mr Adjei Sefah, Secretary to the GIMPA Governing Council and Mr Teddy Konu, Registrar of the University of Ghana gave evidence in the case. The rest are Professor Robert Wood and Mr Emmanuel Ocran members of the GIMPA Governing Council and Dr. Edward Boohene, Chairman of the GIMPA Governing Council. The court, presided over by Mr. Justice Victor Ofoe adjourned the case to February 13, this year and asked the Defence team to open its Defence. Dr. Boohene during cross-examination by Mr. Daniel Amartefio, Counsel for Dr Stephen Adei, Rector of GIMPA told the court that the relationship between him and the first defendant was not all that cordial. He said his problem with the Rector stemmed from the fact that he had always insisted that the rules and regulations that existed before they came into office should be followed. He said even though he, as chairman had powers to override decisions of the Governing Council he had most of the time done so in the best interest of the Institute. Dr. Boohene said, he was deeply worried about the bad publicity that the institute was receiving in the media. He said he had received calls from all kinds of people who wanted to know what was going on in the Institute and the effects that it would have on the image and academic work at the Institute. The facts were Mr Egbert Faibille, Managing Editor of the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper had filled a suit at the High Court in his capacity as a citizen of Ghana against three defendants, including Dr Stephen Adei, Rector of GIMPA as the first defendant, and the GIMPA Governing Council as the second defendant and the GIMPA Institution as the third defendant. Among the relieves sought by the plaintiff include an order by the court to restrain Dr. Adei from holding himself as a professor and rector of GIMPA, that the Governing Council of GIMPA should advertise the vacant position in the media and a suitable replacement found. The rest are damages should also be awarded against the first defendant for deceiving the entire GIMPA institution, governing council and the fraud that he had perpetuated on the people of Ghana.
