Newly elected members of the Ketu-South District Assembly have been advised to resist introducing partisanship into the Assembly’s deliberations. Mr Mathias Torsu, Out-going Ahorkpe Area Member of the Assembly, made the call at an end-of–year get-together, organized by the Assembly, for a cross-section of the public on Friday, at Denu. It was planned to attract public commitment to the Assembly’s activities. Mr Torsu asked members to be guided only by the development needs of the people and also strive for unity and peace in the area, “but not party supremacy”. “Avoid those useless wrangling based on vague partisan whims,” Mr Torsu stated. Mr Torsu, who did not contest the recent district assembly elections, after serving for three terms said, “we have been peaceful and this must be maintained for the area’s development”. Mr Bernard Amarble, District Chief Executive (DCE) urged outgoing Assembly Members to use their rich experience in guiding the newly elected ones in their work. He condemned the rampant anonymous letter writing and the use of harsh language against authorities in the area, saying people with concerns should be open and frank and come forward for discussions. Mr Amarble commended the various stakeholders for assisting the Assembly, which he said remained on course in their development programmes. He said 14 basic schools and five Community-Based Health Services (CHIPS) zones are among a number projects to be tackled this year. Some speakers expressed misgivings about the poor roads in the area and called for expedited action on the remaining portion of the Aflao-Accra highway.
