The National Service Scheme has proved to be a useful instrument for preparing young school leavers to adjust to the transition between school and work. Mr Ken Gyamfi, Volta Regional Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) made this assertion during an orientation course for the National Service and Voluntary Service personnel in the Ho Municipality and Adaklu Anyigbe District in Ho on Thursday. He commended retired teachers for their voluntary service towards the Scheme and entreated them to continue in their efforts to justify the relevance of the Voluntary service concept. Miss Rosemond Keteku, Ho Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), urged the volunteer teachers and their National Service counterparts to be mindful of what they do since they are role models to their pupils and students. She said, “As those who bring enlightenment to people and communities”, teachers ought to be knowledgeable and morally upright. Mr Prosper Pi-Bansah, Ho Municipal Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), briefed the personnel on the operations and benefits of the Scheme and urged them to join it. Mr Michael Tottime, Ho Municipal Coordinating Director of the NSS reminded the personnel to be discipline at their various posts.
