Mrs. Laura Bush and Mrs. Theresa Kufuor have commissioned a library at the Mallam District Assembly Primary School as part of an agenda to help instill the habit of reading in the children. The two first ladies on Wednesday also participated in a reading event dubbed: the “Reading Hub” to encourage the pupils to read on their own both within and outside the classrooms. The School has 171 pupils in the kindergarten and 614 in the primary department. Mrs Bush said Ghana had a special place in her heart and expressed the hope that the teachers would help the pupils to read widely to help them attain greater heights in their levels of education. Mrs Kufuor said the nation played an important role in the upbringing of children but the parents had a primary responsibility to help instill the habit of reading in children to make them acquire knowledge and become responsible adults in future. She commended the school for establishing the library which would make learning conducive for both the teacher and the pupil.
