The founder and leader of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Mr Kofi Wayo, stormed out of the IPAC meeting on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Mr. Wayo said the meeting was not being properly conducted. According to him, some foreigners were present in the meeting, something he disagreed with. He said the foreigners had no business being in the meeting. The Inter-Party Advisory Committee meeting is called by the Electoral Commission to discuss with political parties issues relating to the conduct of elections in the country. Meanwhile Joy News’ Alex Kwabina Mensah reported that the meeting was devoid of acrimony. He said all the political parties and the EC were having civil discussions. Top on Tuesday’s agenda is the date for the December polls which falls on a Sunday. The Christian Council of Ghana has raised concerns that the date would affect worshipping. The council therefore called on the EC to change the date to any other day either than Sunday. But the EC has maintained its position that the date will not be changed. Also critical in the discussion is the allegations of over bloating of the voter register in 13 constituencies in the Ashanti Region.
