The Kumasi Metropolitan Authority (KMA) has cautioned traders and hawkers, who took advantage of the Yuletide to do business on the pavements of the Central Business District, to vacate in their own interest. A statement issued by Clement Kegeri of the Public Relations Office said legitimate force would be used to remove them. It said all unauthorised structures at the business district would also be pulled down. The statement said a combined team of KMA guards and Decongestion Task Force had been assigned to make sure that by-laws banning hawking and trading on the streets were rigidly enforced. It pledged the authority’s resolve to ensure that there was free flow of traffic and pedestrian movement. The KMA also reminded waste management contractors to be committed to their job and warned that it would not hesitate to terminate their contracts for non-performance.
