One more person has been killed in the Bawku Conflict bringing the total number of persons murdered to eleven (11) since the conflict erupted in December 2007. Also, three (3) persons were arrested between 2nd and 5th February 2008 for alleged possession of weapons and have been remanded in custody to reappear before court. The Minister of Interior, Hon Kwamena Bartels made this known when he briefed Parliament on the current situation in Bawku. The Minister said a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Bawku has been maintained to help security personnel deployed to the area to manage the situation there. Hon. Bartels said, Government is considering a proposal to put in place a non-violence conflict resolution mechanism in Bawku to facilitate dialogue and reconciliation between the feuding parties. The Minority Leader, Hon. Alban Bagbin stressed the need to focus on finding a local solution to the problem in Bawku instead of imported solutions.
