Forty-seven babies were delivered in five government hospitals in the Kumasi Metropolis on New Year’s day. The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) recorded 27 deliveries, 16 males and 11 females out of the figure. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Miss Margaret Ama Obeng, Midwifery Officer (MO) on duty at the Labour Ward of KATH said 19 births, made up of 12 males and seven females were recorded. She said there were two Caesarean Sections (CS) and four intra uterine deaths adding that the other babies and their mothers were in good health. At the Special A1 Ward of the Hospital, Miss Doris Felicia Odame, the Midwifery Officer on duty, indicated that eight deliveries were recorded comprising, four males and four females. She said the babies and their mothers were doing well. Seven babies, four males and three females were recorded at the Suntreso Hospital. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Madam Grace Boateng, (MO) and Miss Stella Pokuaa Appiah, Senior Staff Midwife, said they recorded their first delivery of a female at 0530 hours with a weight of three kilogrammes. At the Manhyia Hospital, seven births were also recorded made up of three females and four males. Mrs Victoria Darko, the MO on duty, told the GNA that all the babies and their mothers were doing well and that three of them had been discharged. Mrs Margaret Osei, MO at the Tafo Government Hospital, said four deliveries were recorded comprising three females and a male. She said the babies and their mothers had been discharged. At the KNUST Hospital, two female babies were delivered, one was through Caesarean Section. Both babies and their mothers are doing well.
