Ex-convict jailed for stealing palm-oil

15 Jan 2011 155 news, social

Clement Nusetor, a driver, who admitted before the Kade District Magistrate’s Court for having served three years at the Nsawam prisons for stealing a goat was on Friday sentenced to 24 months in prison in hard labour by the court. He pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted stealing palm oil. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J. Y. Cromwell, told the court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, that on November 29 last year, two persons called the Pramkese Police on mobile phone to inform them that thieves numbering three had sent a vehicle to Ofosuhene Palm-oil mill and were stealing gallons of palm-oil. He said the alarm was raised and the thieves bolted leaving the taxi cab loaded with twelve containers. The taxi with registration number GR 9781 Z with the palm-oil was later sent to the police station. The prosecutor said on December 01, one Joseph Armah, of Kasoa, went to the Pramkese police station to claim ownership of the vehicle. He told the police that he gave the vehicle to a driver, Clement Nusetor, for commercial purpose but he failed to return the vehicle. The prosecutor said on December 21, Nusetor was arrested by the Kasoa police and sent to Pramkese police station on the following day where he pleaded for leniency but the prosecutor told the court that he served a jail term for stealing a goat. When the court asked him if that was true, he told the court amidst laughter; “it is true that I served three years for stealing a goat and served my sentence at block 5 at Nsawam prisons” Mr Iliasu then convicted and sentenced him to 24 months in jail.
