The Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) on Friday pledged to collaborate with Organised Labour to intensify education and sensitization of workers and employers to ensure a peaceful industrial relations climate. According to GEA a well-informed worker and employer and a peaceful industrial relations climate could make significant impact on Ghana’s quest for democracy. “Let us also remind ourselves that if we are able to deepen democracy in Ghana, we can be assured of such democracy dividends as high standards of living, adequate and reliable infrastructure, wealth and employment creation, high productivity, peace and overall national prosperity,” it said. This was contained in a solidarity message issued by the Association to Organised Labour on the occasion of May Day celebration, which fell on May 1. A statement signed by GEA’s President, Mr. Charles A. Cofie in Accra said sacrifices made by workers of Ghana towards nation-building over the years had made significant impact on the socio-economic development that could not be over-emphasised. It said during the struggle for independence, Organised Labour played a critical role and over 50 years thereafter it was their expectation that workers would be deeply involved in the fashioning of a democratic culture in Ghana that would foster peace, progress and prosperity. “Besides its role in national political landscape, Employers would continue to partner Organised Labour in building an entrenched culture of consultation, dialogue, negotiations and cross-fertilization of views, opinions and ideas that engender enterprise development, productivity, creation of jobs embedded in the respect for the rule of law,” it added.
