Mr Jude Adu-Amankwaah, Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has appealed to employees of the company to go for Voluntary Testing and Counselling (VTC). Mr Adu-Amankwaah said this in a speech read on his behalf at the launch of the Kumasi West Office of the ECG HIV/AIDS policy programme and best worker awards ceremony in Kumasi on Saturday. He said ECG would prevent the spread of HIV/ADS at workplaces and would also provide treatment, care and support for infected and affected employees and their families. Mr Adu-Amankwaah said EGC would provide protection from stigmatization and discrimination against employees living with the disease. He said the policy would guarantee job access and status, promotion of job security and training and would not be influenced merely by HIV/AIDS status of an employee. "No staff will loose his or her job on the basis of the virus." Thirteen workers were honoured for their contributions to the development of the company and took home cash, certificates, citations and medals. They included Mr Amos Baffoe, an Artisan and Disconnector in Kumasi was adjudged the overall best worker, Mr J.K. Eshun, Works Superintendent in Kumasi, Mr Anthony Oduro, Meter Inspector at Abuakwa, Madam Mawuse Attah, Senior Administrative Assistant in Kumasi and Mr Anane Gyesu, Accounts Assistant in Kumasi.
