The Ghana Prisons Service has launched a manhunt for Yaw Asamoah, a 41-year-old convict who escaped from the premises of the Accra High Court while awaiting trial for another offence. Asamoah was already serving 20 years imprisonment in hard labour for another case. He was jailed for conspiracy and robbery on January 27, this year. Meanwhile, the Ghana Prisons Service has posted a reward for GH¢1,000 (one thousand Ghana Cedis) for the capture of Asamoah. When contacted by the Times, ASP Courage Atsem, Chief Public Relations Officer, confirmed the story and said the prisons authorities were investigating. He appealed to members of the public with information on Asamoah to contact the nearest police station or the Prison authorities, or call the following number: 0302-777052, 0244-073620 or 0275-220777. Asamoah, a trader, who stands about 5ft. 3 inches tall, is dark-brown in complexion and speaks Twi, Ga and English. The convict who hails from Mpraeso Kwahu in the Eastern Region, has a round face with multiple scars.
