Come Out With Verdict On Odododiodioo Vetting – NDC NEC Urged Website
A group within the Odododiodioo constituency of the NDC calling themselves, “The Concerned Members for Victory 2008,” has appealed to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to come out with its verdict on the vetting of the contestants as soon as possible. It said this would pave the way for the delegates’ conference of the constituency to be held to enable full scale campaigning for the elections to be launched. Speaking to newsmen in Accra, a spokesman for the group, Mr. Francis Puobeng said weeks after the vetting of the contestants, the NEC had not come out with its verdict on the suitability of the contestants. He challenged the eligibility of one of the contestants vying to be selected as the parliamentary candidate of the party in this year’s general election. According to the group, it had information that one of the contestants was trying to influence the verdict to enable him to take part in the primaries to select the parliamentary candidate and said they would resist attempts to “subvert” the vetting process of the party and appealed to the NEC to ensure that the guidelines for the selection of candidates were strictly applied, to ensure the growth of the party and to maintain discipline within the rank and file of the NDC. It noted that one of the contestants was disqualified from the primaries for the by-election in the area in 2005 for a number of reasons including not possessing a valid party card. Mr. Puobeng stated that as far as they were aware, the contestant had not rectified the reasons why he was disqualified and still wanted to represent the people on the ticket of the party.
