Peacefmonline can confirm that the Yutong Bus at the centre of the alleged mass bus rape / attempted robbery incident, which has engaged the attention of the whole country, has been involved in a tragic accident on the Kintampo/ Tamale road. Five people are said to have perished in the gory calamity. Samuel Asiedu, driver of the Yutong Bus with registration number GN 263-10, was negotiating a curve just after the Kintampo Waterfalls, when an on-coming articulator truck slammed into it. The driver of the articulator truck was alleged to be driving on the wrong side of the lane. Oheneba Kennedy of Adass FM in Kintampo, a radio station affiliated to PeaceFM who narrated the incident to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Kokrokoo Morning Show, reports that in an attempt to drive around a stationary Burkina Faso-bound cargo truck said to be faulty, the driver of the articulator truck veered into the lane of the on-coming Yutong bus. Vainly, he said, the articulator truck driver tried to stop but his brakes failed leading to the headlong collision. The impact of the collision was so huge that the bus drivers’ mate, who also the spare driver was killed instantly. Five people (four said to be passengers on the Yutong bus and one other person on board the articulator truck), lost their lives in the accident, whiles several others who sustained various degree of body injuries have since been conveyed to the Kintampo Government Hospital. 53 year old Samuel Aseidu Sasu, who has been a driver for the past 32 years is said to have suffered a broken leg as a result of the accident. According to Oheneba Kennedy, the faulty cargo truck had been left unattended to for almost three days now, because of the lack of equipment to tow it away. Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims have since been deposited at Kintampo Government Hospital morgue, which is even said to be full. Amina Mohammed gained ‘notoriety’ in the eyes of the police when she claimed that armed robbers forced male passengers to have sex with their female counterparts on board a Tamale-bound bus she was travelling in. The story has since generated intense controversy with president Mills summoning his security chiefs and instructing them to investigate the report. She was picked by the police on Saturday, October 30, to assist in investigations and charged with publishing false information with the intent to cause fear and alarm and deceiving a public officer. On Tuesday, October 2nd, Amina Mohammed was remanded in police custody by an Accra Circuit court, presided over by Mrs. Patience Mills-Tetteh after her counsel; Prof Ken Attafuah’s request for bail was flatly refused.
