Professional golfers will for the first time, take part in this month’s Achimota Golf Club Medal Open Championship scheduled for Achimota in Accra on Saturday, April 12. Mr. Kwabenan Oteng-Aboagye, General Manager of the Club, who announced this in Accra on Sunday, said the competition, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 5, was postponed at the request of PricewaterhouseCoopers, who are sponsoring the competition to enable the professionals to participate. The competition, since its inception some years ago has been opened to amateur golfers only. Mr. Oteng-Aboagye said about 100 golfers are expected to participate in the one-day 18-Hole Medal Play event, which shall be played under the rules of the Ghana Golf Association and the local rules of the Achimota Golf Club. He said so far 20 professionals had registered for the competition and expressed the hope that the number would increase by the close of registration on Friday, April 11. The General Manager named some of the professional golfers who had already registered for the competition as Anthony Amuzu, L.A. Ayisha, David Agbeko and Robert Degbe. Officials from Pricewater House Coopers are expected to grace the occasion.
