11-Year Old Boy Confirms Detention By Ex-KMA Boss

31 Jan 2011 148 news, social

The eleven year old boy who was allegedly detained and tortured at gun point by the former Mayor of Kumasi has been narrating his ordeal to Citi News. Aaron Okyem Djan said Nana Akwasi Agyeman, popularly known as Okumkom ordered him to sit on the floor for five hours because he claimed he had beaten his 5 year old son. According to him, he was later asked to raise his hands so that a gun is shot through his armpit which he obliged out of panic. He said it took the intervention of the wife and sister of Nana Akwesi Agyeman to secure his release. “The boy was holding a toffee ring and the point was so sharp because it is like plastic. He was using it to pinch us and we said we didn’t like it. He went ahead to step on my trousers on two occasions and I realized that he intentionally did it. So I told the driver who shouted at him and asked him to stop and the boy was crying. He again used the ring to slap my face and I was having eye problem so I became angry and I hit his shoulders. When we dropped him, he went and said a boy has beaten him in the car so his father came and drove us into his residence”. “When we got there, his father asked who beat him and the boy pointed at me. Then his father asked me to explain. But when I was explaining, the Father said his son is five years old so he cannot beat me and that I rather beat him. So he asked me to sit on the floor and asked my colleagues and the driver to leave because he has detained me. I sat there for about five hours and our driver came back and called the boy’s mother who also called Akwasi Agyemang’s sister and they came and pleaded. Akwesi Agyemang said that he has forgiven me so which punishment should he give me and I said I didn’t know”. “And he said I should raise my hands and let him shoot through my armpit. So whiles I was sitting down, the woman asked me to plead with the young boy. So I did that and the young boy went and told the father that he has accepted it. So the young boy was about to take the gun from his father and his mother told the father to give a warning shot. So in that same house at about a distance, his father went there and gave a warning shot” the boy narrated. The victim's uncle, one Samuel Osei told Citi News the family would pursue the case to ensure that the law deals appropriately with the case once it has been reported to the police. “The other day it was Obuasi when a juvenile was made to eat his own faeces. We don’t know where we are moving to. And if we are in a country and commoners don’t have justice, a time will come the commoners will take justice into their own hands” he said. Nana Akwasi Agyeman has however denied the allegation in an interview with Citi News, saying he was not "a mad man" to detain a young boy for allegedly beating his son. “If an armed robber comes to me, I will pull a gun but not at this small boy. It is only a mad man who will do that. I am not a mad man. This is a fabricated story being pushed by my opponents to discredit me” he said. Nana Akwasi Agyeman noted that he only called Aaron to his house to advise him against beating his son or any other child he went to school with, stressing that he had ordered the police to arrest the parents of the boy, who were spreading the false information about him.
