Gender advocate and staunch activist of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ursula Owusu has descended heavily on some pro-government newspapers for indulging in intellectual dishonesty by publishing what she claims to be blatant falsehoods and constant heaping of insults on the party’s flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. The outspoken NPP member was particularly critical of the Informer newspaper, accusing the pro-NDC tabloid of consistently publishing falsehoods to reinforce their deeply held beliefs in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, just to defame Nana Addo. The Informer newspaper, in its Wednesday November 24th edition, carried a publication claiming that the Head of Religious Broadcast at Multimedia Group Limited and regular preacher on Adom FM, Rev. Owusu Ansah, was convening a meeting of Men of God, where the NPP Flagbearer was expected to attend. According to the pro-NDC newspaper, it had “intercepted the invitation sent out and gathered that the pastors are to pray against Akufo Addo’s long battle with cocaine and marijuana, his extra-marital affairs with longtime sex-mate Ursula Owusu and the persistently uncontrollable alcoholism nature of his daughters.” According to the newspaper, the meeting was scheduled to take place at the Nima junction residence of Nana Akufo-Addo describing the meeting as a copycat of the several meetings that President Mills has been having regularly with church leaders and anointed men of God. But contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM’s Flagship programme, “Kokrokoo”, Ms. Ursula Owusu dismissed the publication as fallacious and a trumped-up story, since the NPP flagbearer was in Tamale for a scheduled meeting with the party’s youth wing. Ursula, who slated the pro-NDC press for picking up on the renowned radio preacher, also indirectly censured President Mills for his affiliation with Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, pointing out that there are equally devout spiritual leaders in the country. “If Informer does not know, Nana is in Tamale to address the Youth wing of the party in the area, so I don’t know if Nana Addo is going to move his house from Nima to Tamale to have that supposed meeting with the Pastors. They (Informer) are also saying we should pray for him for his long battle with cocaine and marijuana…we have said this several times that Nana Addo does not even drink alcohol, but they keep dwelling on this…When their ministers were being vetted (in Parliament), they stated that they don’t have evidence to back the several allegations they leveled against the NPP, admitting that they were mostly political talk. But it is unfortunate the NDC papers have not learnt anything from it…The NDC papers, even in the face of evidence to the contrary, are still adamant. I’m pleading with them that they have heaped enough insults Rev. Owusu Ansah, so they should let him be…God does not listen to only Nigerian pastors, we have Men and Women of God in Ghana too…so we must not bastardize the little we have and applaud some others,” she stated.
