President Sirleaf Calls On President Mills
Liberia President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, on arrival in Ghana in for the tenth anniversary meeting of the African Women's Development Fund (AWDF) meeting, on Thursday November 11, paid a courtesy call on President John Evans Atta Mills at the Osu Castle in Accra. The two leaders, in an atmosphere of conviviality and fraternity discussed ways of enriching and deepening the relations between Accra and Monrovia and enhance their bilateral ties. President Mills expressed delight at the visit of the Liberian Leader, described Ghana and Liberia as twin sisters and said the two nation's had played host to the citizens of each other's country. President Sirleaf conveyed the appreciation of the Government and people of Liberia to Ghana for her role and assistance to Liberia in hosting Liberia refugees during that country's civil war. She said Ghana has contributed in a number of ways in brokering and maintaining peace in the sister West African nation. President Johnson said her people acknowledged the role of Ghana in Liberia's development and asked President Mills to visit her country. President Sirleaf said she would use the occasion to make follow-ups to a business trip made by a Liberian delegation earlier on and hold discussions with some Ghanaian Ministers. She called for the deepening of ties between Liberia and Ghana. Ms Akua Sena Dansua, Minister for Youth and Sports and Mr. Rudolph Van Ballmous, accompanied the Liberia Leader on the courtesy call. The AWDF is a fund-raising and grant-making initiative, which aims to support the work of the African Women's movement. It is the first Africa-wide fund-raising and grant-making fund, established in June 2000.
