Members of the Agona East District Assembly have approved 500 Ghana cedis as ex-gratia award for members pending the government's decision to either pay more or to maintain the agreed one. Three hundred Ghana cedis of the amount was paid to each of the assembly members before the dissolution of the assembly with the promise of paying the rest when the assembly's finances improves next year. Addressing the members, Mr John Oremus Arkoh, the District Chief Executive for Agona East, commended the members for their cooperation and support during his 18 months in office. He also praised them for working as a team devoid of partisan politics that had speeded up the development of the district. Mr Arkoh said the assembly has undertaken 27 projects in education, health, water, sanitation, rural electrification and markets. These projects were funded by the District Assembly Common Fund, European Union Micro Project, Community based Rural Development Project and Community and Community Water and Sanitation project. He said the assembly had formed a revenue mobilization task force to assist the improvement of the internally generated fund to support development of the district. Mr Arkoh said the assembly would embark on pragmatic policies and programmes to turn the fortune of the district and urged aspiring members to work hard for them to win in the forth coming District level elections scheduled for next month.
