Miss Agnes Odoom, a Senior Staff Midwife at the Tema Polyclinic, has appealed to the government to reconsider the policy of free delivery so that monies paid by expectant mothers could be used for development. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Tema on Monday, Miss Odoom said although the policy of free delivery for expectant mothers was laudable, it was being abused. She said a typical example was when a 23-year-old woman delivered her third child because she was enjoying free delivery. Miss Odoom spoke about the poor state of facilities at the Polyclinic and said money used for free delivery could be channelled into building more hospitals, expanding and equipping others. She also called on government to train more health professionals so that no hospital or clinic would be under-staffed.
