Deputy Ghana captain, John Mensah would be decorated with an award by the Ghana Football Association for earning his 53rd cap with the Black Stars. The 25-year-old defender would receive the award at a ceremony in Sydney, next month, when Ghana plays Australia in a friendly game. “The Ghana Football Association and for that matter the whole nation is very much appreciative to you for your selfless efforts to lift the image of Ghana high and it is our prayer the Lord will give you strength and guidance to enable you see us through the next World Cup and other significant engagements,” a congratulatory message to the player from the FA stated. John Mensah earned his 53rd cap for the senior national team when he led the Black Stars in last month’s friendly against Mexico in London. After impressive displays for the national Under-21 side, John Mensah earned senior debut for the Black Stars against Algeria on 5 December 2001 just after his 19th birthday. And at the 2008 African Cup of Nations, the defender earned his 50th cap for Ghana on Monday as he led the Black Stars to a 2-0 victory over Morocco in the group stages of the competition.
