THE BEATS of a young and prolific sound engineer, Quick Action, is currently gaining international recognition, with his rhythms being listened to across most African countries and beyond. The rhythm he composed for MTN ambassador, Batman Samini, which is being used as ringing tone for MTN subscribers in Ghana, is at present the latest sensation for the network’s subsidiary in South Africa. Now when one calls South Africa, Samini’s song which was recorded by Quick Action, is the music they will hear in the background. Quick Action, who is known as Joseph Appiah in real life said in an interview with Beatwaves last Tuesday that the MTN song was not the only record that was making enormous impacts outside Ghana. According to him, some other recordings he did for Ecobank and Rice Master, in their ads, aired in quite a number of African countries are also causing stir in those countries. These, he continued, are just the beginning of greater things to come. Quick Action is expected to further boost his international ambition with a recording deal this year. He will be recording the remix of Tic Tac’s song, “Kangaroo” at the Tommy Rock Studio in Australia. This will aid him surf the international scene for more opportunities and exposure. Already he had his signature registered on the international market with the recording of Samini’s song ‘Odo’, which won the Best Africa Art Award at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) in the UK, in 2006. Ever since he appeared on the music recording scene, he has been one of the best engineers who tried to maintain a low profile. Upholding the old adage, ‘you don’t blow your own trumpet’, Quick Action said “I allowed my output to prove my competence,” adding that he never used the same beat or sound for different artistes which has been the major criticism in the recording industry in Ghana. He said further that his beats do not only come from his creativity but are inspired by God also. Most of his recordings for artistes became hit songs. Tic Tac’s ‘Fefe Ne Fe’, ‘Condom’ by Bright of Buk Bak fame, Nana Quame’s ‘Soldier Alafia’ and 4x4’s ‘Anaconda’ are some of such songs. His creative rhythms galvanize current songs on Kwaw Kesse’s fresh project, and that of Andy of Mentor. He also produced other big names in the gospel arena, the likes of Cindy Thompson, Mary Ghansah, Jane and Bernice, Bishop Michael and Osei Bonsu. He told Beatwaves that at the moment, “I am working behind the scenes to unleash some fresh and special beats of all time.”
