Rex Omar, popular Ghanaian musician, has stated politicians through empty promises cannot use musicians as political toys. He said politicians who make promises on improving Ghana’s cultural sector must deliver in order to gain the support of celebrities such as himself. He made the statement in responding to questions on the recent get-together organised by the New Patriotic Party (N.P.P) flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo for players in the showbiz industry. Speaking to Radio Gold’s Solid Gold Countdown, Rex Omar expressed profound relief that finally a politician is beginning to see the need to revamp the troubled Ghanaian cultural sector. He said, “Nana was so sincere, I don’t want to believe he called us to his house just for the sake of politics.” Rex has been a strong advocate for positive change in Ghana’s cultural sector and believes it should be the bedrock of any nation’s developmental agenda. Nana Kwame Nana Akuffo Addo, the flagbearer of the N.P.P invited musicians, actors, musicians and all players in Ghana’s cultural sector for lunch last week. The meeting saw the convergence of over 500 celebrities from all parts of the country. It was the first time a flagbearer of a political party has shown such concern for the cultural sector and its players. Ghanaian celebrities like Grace Omaboe, Jewel Ackah, Nana Kwame Ampadu, A-Plus and others graced the N.P.P flagbearer’s house with their presence. Rex Omar when asked whether he would want to see Nana Akuffo Addo as president of Ghana answered in the affirmative and added, “so long as he will deliver on his promises on Ghana’s cultural sector.”
