The Miss Malaika selection train will on May 3, make its final stop at the Erata Hotel in Accra for its second auditioning in the first round. The Accra audition is expected to attract a larger number of ladies than in Kumasi. A total of 25 beautiful young ladies who exhibited boldness and intelligence were last Saturday selected out of the about 100 ladies who were screened in the Kumasi auditioning. In all, 16 beautiful but intelligent and responsible ladies between the ages of 18 and 25 will be selected for the Malaika Reality Show, after the second round in Kumasi and Accra, respectively. Six of the 16 ladies will be evicted on weekly basis through public voting via mobile phone text messaging, based on their performance of the various tasks which would be assigned them while in the reality show. By 10 am last Saturday, young ladies dressed in different catchy dresses to bring out their shape, and beauty started pouring in in their numbers. One after the other, the wannabe stars faced the panel. The panel made up of Betty Enchil, proprietor of Q’ticles and Nails, William Asiedu, an ace arts writer, Patricia Akuamoah, Miss Malaika 2005, tested the wannabe stars for their intelligence, beauty, personality, striking features, boldness, and the desire to take up the responsibilities. In November last year, 21-year old Laurie Naa Lamiley Lawson was crowned Miss Malaika Ghana 2007, and is expected to embark on a community outreach programme in partnership with the National Malaria Control Board and USAID to educate people on malaria eradication. She has since her reign made donations to the Christian Faith Foster Home at Frafraha and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Children’s Ward in Accra. The Malaika pageant which began in 2005 seeks to give promising, intelligent and hard working young ladies the opportunity to make a difference in society through malaria eradication. The event is organised by Charter House Productions every year.
