Most often when our musicians and our actresses climb the social status of becoming famous and rich, they usually forget where it all started from. Once they become public icons, the young generation admires them for their achievements but rarely do you see such icons giving back to the youth and the society as a whole. A few international examples of people who believe in giving back to society include the number one talk hostess Oprah Winfrey, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie and pop star, Madonna. In an interview with an intelligent, pretty upcoming actress Vashti Jones, she said “I believe in giving back to society because if someone doesn’t help the less fortunate ones who re seen as the new generation to realize their dreams and goals and goals then who will”. Vashti Jones who is of a Liberian decent but has lived most of her life in Ghana left the country some years to purse her college education in the United States of America. It was there that her passion for acting developed and has since performed mostly in stage plays or in the theatres across the States. She has a Non-Governmental Organization which she is personally funding called the Vashti Jones Foundation. It is an NGO that caters for the needy people in society whether HIV/AIDS patients, street kids or orphanages. Her NGO is interested in giving to the needy and over the years she has been donating clothes and food items to various homes and communities in Ghana. Currently, her biggest project is a movie she produced titled “Chosen Paths” and she played the leading role. She wrote the script herself and features different actors and actresses all over the word from Africa and Asia. It was shot in the United States of America and directed by one of the finest movie directors one can find. The movie talks about a group of young girls who left the shores of their country in search of greener pastures. Upon reaching the US they realized it was not as easy as they thought. They had to struggle to survive and moreover send money to relatives back home. One of the girls who believed in using herbs to cure any type of sickness, she had HIV but was not aware until it developed into a full blown AIDS and it was too late for her to be saved till she died Apart from this movie, she just finished shooting the movie “Playing Games” which is about to come out soon. Those who featured in the movie include; Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah and Van Vicker. She went on further to say that the US is currently the biggest market for African movies so she will advice script writers, African actors and actresses not to use words such as nigga, bitch and other offensive language in their movies because it is usually spoken in America and since its coming from Africa they have to introduce something more African, something that portrays their image and culture. Miss Vashti Jones says she is very selective about the role she accepts to play because she wants to portray who she is in a movie and one that is more challenging. She is pretty, intelligent, talented and has a giving spirit and it will not come as a surprise if in the near future she is nominated for Africa Movie Awards and wins the best actress. Her face is here to stay on your screens and believe me when I say, she is really talented. You will be swept of your feet by her eloquence and desire to share what she has.
