Gold Fields Ghana Limited, headline sponsors of the Black Stars has urged support for the team as they embark on the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup/African Cup of Nations. The Stars begin their campaign for the two competitions against the Greens of Libya on June 1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital. A statement signed by Johan Botha, Managing Director and Head of Operations of the company copied to GNA Sports said “with yet another journey at our doorsteps, we are urging every Ghanaian fan to lend their support and passion to the national cause of reaching yet another World Cup finals.” Mr Botha said even though the Libyans would not come that easy, he has the conviction that the Stars have what it takes to beat them. He added that his outfit remains confident in the ability of the Black Stars to cross all hurdles to qualify for the South Africa 2010 World Cup and Angola 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. “I have no iota of doubt in your ability to sail through to fully participate in both tournaments in 2010.” The Managing Director wished the Stars the best of luck on the journey towards the first ever Mundial on African soil. Gabon and Lesotho are the other two teams the Stars will face in the first phase of the qualifiers.
