Ghana Music Awards 2008 – Nominations List Out Today

For nine consecutive years, Ghanaian Music Artistes have continuously been challenged to bring out the best in them through the very prestigious Ghana Music Awards Festival. Regardless of the many times that the award scheme has been criticized in one way or the other, it continues to reign as the only music festival that recognizes and awards deserving artistes while attracting a high number of foreigners to the Country. Tonight at the plush Golden Tulip Hotel, this year’s nomination list will be unveiled! Who gets what? And who doesn’t? Positioned to be another history-making event of Ghana’s Entertainment calendar, the Ghana Music Awards Festival (GMA) which celebrates its 9th edition on the 24th, 26th and 27th of April respectively, will once again award deserving artistes for their hard work, dedication and contribution to Ghana’s music industry. As part of some of the changes made in the Award process this year, sometime last two weeks, the committee is reported to have grouped the regions of the country into three zones; Northern, Greater Accra and Western zones where stake holders were invited to the open forum to share their views on ways in which the GMA Festival could be improved and also to present their nominations for the different categories. According to a release issued by Charterhouse Productions, event organizers of the GMA, “the award scheme is growing and changes like these have become necessary to improve the Festival”. In a quest to gain more credibility and authority for Ghana Music Awards, the organizers are reported to be considering most of the issues that were raised at the various zones during the forum. Categories for this years awards scheme are: Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Hiplife Artiste of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Hiplife Album of the Year, Highlife Artiste of the Year, Highlife Song of the Year, Highlife Album of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year, Gospel Song of the year, Gospel Album of the Year and Pop Song of the Year. The rest are: Reggae Song of the Year, African Artiste of the Year, Best Collaboration of the year, Discovery of the Year, Best Male Vocal Performance (Solo/Group), Best Female vocal performance (Solo/Group), Traditional Artiste(s) of the Year, Instrumentalist of the Year, Best Music Video Directing of the Year, Best Lyricist of the Year, Record Label of the Year, Recording Engineer of the Year This year’s festival is sponsored by MTN with support from Western Union, Golden Tulip, Virgin Nigeria and Neat Fufu,
