Essien To Play In Round 2 Of league For Hearts

Onetouch footballer of the year, Kweku Essien, has signed a half-year deal with Accra Hearts of Oak in a renewed bid to revive his career. The former King Faisal and Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfielder who once had a brief stint with the senior national team, the Black Stars, has concluded all his documentation to wear the Phobian shirt when the second round of the premiership kicks off on April 27. Essien who has been on the plans of Kessben since emerging the star player of last season made a dramatic switch to the Phobian camp two weeks ago, proclaiming his age-long admiration for Hearts. “I have been a die hard fan of the Phobians since my infancy and I believe this move is the realisation of a dream to wear the rainbow shirt”, he said. Essien, who was signed by German Division One side, Osnabruck F/C, after last year’s league, has struggled to make a first team appearance following the exit of the manager at whose behest the Ghanaian youngster was signed. The youngster whose signing completes a list of five including two former players, Charles Taylor and striker Ishmael Addo, is being touted as the midfield solution to the Phobians who have so far had a round of miserable outings this season. But according to his manager, Mohammed Jiji, the player is only out to contribute his bid to the revival of Hearts and also to repair the relations between his club, Midjitlaand, and Hearts which have been strained by the transfer of Prince Tagoe. He said the fact that the player was released to Hearts for free was a demonstration that the two teams were now ready to work together. Meanwhile Essien who is currently out of Accra to attend to his sick mother is expected to begin training today with Hearts. Hearts Admnistrative Manager, Ashford Tettey-Oku, told the Graphic Sports that the club was awaitng the arrival of the player’s International Transfer Certificate from Germany today to complete his registration for the season.
